Another major milestone was reached today as crews completed pouring the concrete bridge deck. Over the coming weeks, work will continue on the trail and road surface as the project moves toward completion. The road and trail at the bridge site remain closed during construction, with reopening anticipated this summer.

The bridge reconstruction project reached a major milestone this week as nine new girders were put into place, creating the main support structure of the bridge. Each of the girders is approximately 84 feet long and weighs over 70,000 pounds. The girders are the large, load-bearing horizontal beams that support the bridge and the traffic that will move over it. They create a new foundation that will provide safe, reliable access for the community for the next 60+ years.

Crews will now begin work on the bridge deck, which will be built and poured on top of the girders and form the base of the layer that cars and pedestrians will eventually use.

Final construction of the road, including asphalt paving, curb, gutter, and drainage installation, and striping is anticipated to continue through mid-summer.

As a reminder, these dates are tentative and dependent on weather, materials availability and other factors, and they may change. Please revisit this page for the latest updates.

During this work, 820 North at the bridge site and the Provo River Parkway Trail between 900-800 North is closed to maintain public safety and allow crews to efficiently complete their work.

About the Construction

Construction is underway to build a new, 83-foot-wide bridge with roadway improvements including curb and gutter, trail, drainage, water utilities and upgrades to landscaping.

During this work, 820 North at the bridge site and the Provo River Parkway Trail between 900-800 North will be closed to maintain public safety and allow crews to efficiently complete their work.

Generally, the contractor anticipates the phasing to be:

  • Soil stabilization through December

  • Construction of the foundation and abutments, or the vertical support structures that distribute weight from the bridge deck through the structure, from January to March

  • Setting of the girders, or the big, horizontal beams that support the road and are major milestone of construction, is anticipated in April

  • Final construction of the road, including asphalt replacement, curb and gutter, drainage, and striping is anticipated through mid-summer

  • These dates are tentative and dependent on weather, materials availability, other factors, and may change

Work hours are anticipated to be Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. No night work is anticipated for the immediate future. Marked detour routes are in place; please see maps below for details.

What You Can Expect During Construction:
